Looking for women’s treatment in Colorado? Now is the time. Every September, addiction and mental health advocates honor National Recovery Month. The goal of this month-long observance is to increase awareness of substance problems and mental illness as treatable health conditions. No matter where you live, you can get help and recover your sense of well-being.
At Women’s Recovery, we specialize in women’s treatment for substance issues in Colorado. We also specialize in women’s treatment for dual diagnosis. That’s the name for drug or alcohol problems that occur along with some form of mental illness. Our goal is to provide you with customized care that fits every aspect of your situation. With our help, you can get your recovery underway today.
National Recovery Month Basics
National Recovery Month was founded in 1989. In past years, the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration served as host. But in 2021, there is a new host: Faces & Voices of Recovery.
This nonprofit organization advocates for all Americans affected by substance problems. It seeks to change how those problems are viewed. It also seeks to motivate action that supports effective change. That includes reducing the stigma around addiction. It also includes making improvements in public policy. In addition, Faces & Voices advocates for a recovery Bill of Rights.
During each National Recovery Month, organizers focus on a specific theme related to substance problems and dual diagnosis. The theme for 2021 is “Recovery Is For Everyone: Every Person, Every Family, Every Community.” It reflects the reality that:
- Mental health and addiction recovery never affect just one person
- Each story is different but connects to a wider reality
- You can recover despite the inevitable ups and downs of the process
Faces & Voices of Recovery has launched a Recovery Month website. This website functions as a hub for a range of events planned throughout the month.
Addiction Recovery Events?
Events supporting National Recovery Month take place across the country each weekend in September. These events include such things as:
- Informative webinars
- Substance-free recovery festivals
- In-person conferences
- Virtual luncheons
- Rallies
- 5K fun runs
- Black-tie galas
Several larger-scale events are also planned. For example, the Recovery Month Kick-Off Event takes place on September 9th. Suicide Prevention Week takes place September 5-11. World Suicide Prevention Day takes place on September 10th. Tuesday, September 20th, is designated as National Addiction Professionals Day. Thursday, September 30th, is designated as International Recovery Day.
Listings on the Recovery Month site are voluntary. This means that some events may not be found on the Faces & Voices calendar. Check resources in your area for more information on any events planned locally.
Women’s Treatment Resources
Other types of resources are also available. Perhaps the most important of these resources is a 37-page Recovery Month Toolkit. This toolkit provides detailed information on how to host an event. It also includes guidelines and materials that fit the 2021 theme. The Recovery Month site also features a community page. This page gives local hosts a platform for sharing photos from their completed events.
